Help reference military history articles in the WikiProject Unreferenced Articles #NOV24 Backlog Drive

    [edit]

Hi WikiProject Military history, I’d like to invite anyone interested to join the WikiProject Unreferenced Articles #NOV24 Backlog Drive. There's already been an impressively large reduction in the number of unreferenced military history articles over the last months, but in case you want to apply any more of that energy to the drive, you can quickly access a list of remaining ones here. The drive runs through November, and any help adding reliable sources is welcome. Thanks! Turtlecrown (talk) 13:35, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Inaccurate article section War Reserve Constables

    [edit]

It's been suggested I draw attention to this Talk:War reserve constable both on here and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Law Enforcement in the hope someone with better skills and ideas than myself can sort out an inaccuate section (they says only 3 WRCs were killed 'in the line of duty' when that's clearly not the case. Many thanks to anyone willing to have a look! Rhillman (talk) 18:15, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good article reassessment for Haile Selassie

    [edit]

Haile Selassie has been nominated for a good article reassessment. If you are interested in the discussion, please participate by adding your comments to the reassessment page. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, the good article status may be removed from the article. Z1720 (talk) 16:38, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Ship Characteristics lacking uniformity

    [edit]

so I'm just a kid basically and don't know what I'm talking about. However, there are a lot of ships on here that I often find myself at, and it is strange there isn't a formal way to set up the stats of the ships. Some include cost, some don't. some include ship badge, some don't. ship mottos, classification numbers, consistent displacement(some include full load and regular, others don't specify). I feel like it would make sense if not to standardize it at least advise for certain info to be included Mlayap (talk) 00:28, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mini-drive on Category:Military history articles needing attention only to structure

    [edit]

I recently asked for help here on assessing articles in Category:Military history articles needing attention only to supporting materials. Contributions by Chipmunkdavis, Hawkeye7, Matarisvan, Pickersgill-Cunliffe, Zawed, Hog Farm and Sturmvogel 66 brought down that category's backlog by 50 or so and helped make progress towards our B-class target (we nudged up 0.1% on the target over the period, but not all of this will be down to the new articles generated from the drive).

I thought I would try to replicate this success in another area. These articles in theory need only attention to structure ie. section headers and lead paragraph. Same procedure as before:

Look at one of the articles below and either:

    • If you think it passes all of the B-class criteria and you haven't been involved in writing the article, assess it as B-class on the talk banner template
    • If you think the article requires improvement against another of the B-class criteria, assess it as so on the talk banner template
    • If you can improve the article to meet all of the B-class criteria, do so and then list it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/Requests for formal assessment

When you have done one of these actions strike through the article name and sign against it on the list below

    Thanks in advance everybody - Dumelow (talk) 15:32, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nominations for military historian of the year for 2024 are open!

    [edit]
Military historian of the year 2024

As we approach the end of the year, it is time for us to nominate the editors we believe have made a real difference to the project. As part of the first step to determining this year's "Military Historian of the Year" award, all Milhist editors are invited to nominate those that they feel deserve a nod of appreciation for their hard work over the past 12 months.

The nomination process will commence on 00:01 (UTC) on 16 November and last until 23:59 (UTC) on 30 November. As the awards process is one of simple approval, opposes are deprecated. After that a new thread will be created and a voting period of will commence on 00:01 (UTC) on 1 December during which editors will be able to cast their approval vote for up to three of the nominees. At the end of this period on 23:59 on 30 December, the top three editors will be awarded the Gold, Silver and Bronze Wiki respectively; all other nominees will receive the WikiProject Barnstar.

Please nominate editors below this line, including links in the nomination statement to the most significant articles/lists/images editors have worked on since 1 January 2024. Please keep nomination statements concise; excluding links to the articles/list/images in question, the ideal nomination statement should be about 20 words. Self nominations are frowned upon. Please do not vote until the nominations have been finalized. Thanks, and good luck! For all the coordinators, Hawkeye7 (discuss) 04:13, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Military history newcomer of the year 2024

As we approach the end of the year, it is time for us to nominate the editors we believe have made a real difference to the project. In addition to the Military historian of the year, all Milhist editors are invited to nominate a promising newcomer that they feel deserves a nod of appreciation for their hard work over the past 12 months for the Military history newcomer of the year award. The award is open to any editor who has become active in military history articles in the last 12 months.

Like the Military Historian of the Year, the nomination process will begin at 00:01 (UTC) on 16 November and last until 23:59 (UTC) on 30 November 2024. As the awards process is one of simple approval, opposes are deprecated. After that a new thread will be created and a voting period will commence on 00:01 1 December 2024 during which editors will be able to cast their approval vote for up to three of the nominees. Widespread fictitious reference problem

    [edit]

I've reported it as an incident on the admin noticeboard but people here probably need to be aware since the articles (I've spotted) that are affected tend to relate to military history. Austrian WW2 helicopters

    [edit]

Reposted from WT:AIR where it drew no response: So while getting back into things checking various categories and such, I came across the Nagler-Rolz NR 54, a truly bizzare early helicopter. What caught my eye, though, was the fact the aircraft is universally described as "Austrian", categorised as a "1940s Austrian helicopter", and so on. The thing is...well, at the time it was built and flown, there was no Austria, as it was after the Anschluss and before the end of WW2, or even the Moscow Declarations. So I'm wondering if this should be left as "Austrian", or changed to "German" to reflect the geopolitical reality of the time it was manufactured and flown? - The Bushranger One ping only 03:03, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sources seem to agree that while the designers of the NR 54 were Austrian, the craft itself was German and is so listed by history. Indeed, the extant Smithsonian source notes "Country of Origin: Germany". Some other works from Internet Archive:
