NPOV and Author
[edit]This article really reads as a CV for David Ritch, though parts are surely accurate. If there are so many sources, as User: Travisritch stated in the debate over deletion, they must be inserted. Wikification needs to take place as well. This is an article of concern because the principal author is the son of David Ritch, and thus many assertions, while possibly true, cannot be supported with references. The NPOV questions should be obvious to anyone.Shagmaestro 13:05, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- In my opinion many of the sections could be removed as irrelevant (IE his early life and work) without harming the article, and while improving the POV issues, but I'm not quite feeling bold enough to go in and axe whole sections without some debate on the merits. Wintermut3 21:44, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ran into this article via Wikification drive. Wikification is going to take place soon as Dec 06 is our oldest month of tagged articles. While I'm happy to wikify, I always try to avoid wasted effort so would like to have other issues - WP:NPOV, WP:Notability - resolved first. Frankly, I have a lot of questions as to why this person is notable - it's basically an orphaned biography - and even if he is notable, most of the information contained within is not. --Sesameball 10:40, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Edit request - updates
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
This article has become the primary source of information for anyone needing to write about David Ritch. Its contents are usually recited almost verbatim in any articles (the sources will show that). As such it must be kept up to date. The following are missing:
1) David Ritch was appointed non-executive Chairman of CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank effective 13 December 2013. He has been on the Bank's board since 2002, as well as that of its Cayman subsidiary. Sources: http://www.cibcfcib.com/index.php?mact=News,cntnt01,detail,0&cntnt01articleid=369&cntnt01origid=61&cntnt01returnid=67 http://www.compasscayman.com/caycompass/2013/12/30/Ritch-chairs-CIBC-FirstCaribbean/
This appointment is significant in that this is a regional, publicly-traded bank. It adds much notability, and, together with his post as Chairman of Caribbean Utilities Company, the monopoly provider for electricity on Grand Cayman, should be worked into a paragraph about commercial activities.
2) David Ritch was appointed Chairman of the Constitutional Commission, one of five institutions established by the 2009 Constitution as institutions 'supporting democracy and good governance' in the Cayman Islands. In the wake of the arrest and indictment of McKeeva Bush, the former head of government, this body will have a significant role to play in reforming the constitution. Source: http://www.gov.ky/portal/page?_pageid=1142,7322001&_dad=portal&_schema=portal
3) The sentence "He still serves in the latter position with the IRT" at the end of the "Government work" section has been inaccurate for several years. There was a change of government in 2009 and that government decided to go about immigration reform using another body/group of persons, as the issues had changed.
I can't find a source for this because the team was never publicly disbanded as such; it was a Cabinet committee that people only knew about at the time becuase of the public interest in the issues involved.
4) His law firm, Ritch & Conolly, has been recognised as one of the two best real estate practices in the Cayman Islands. Source: http://www.legal500.com/c/cayman-islands/real-estate
I would very much appreciate having someone else make such of these changes as they consider appropriate. Please let me know if you would like to discuss. Legaleagle345 (talk) 15:31, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- Done. The changes look fine to me so I put them in, with the exception of making a link between the Consitutional Commission, the 2009 constitution and Bush, since that's not mentioned in the reference and making such a link looks like synthesis. Facing the Sky (talk) 16:55, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
