Duplicate
[edit]This article seems like a duplicate of Sir Mix-A-Lot, with just the a in lowercase.
- That title is redirected to this page. Natgoo 16:38, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
Hooptie came out before posse on broadway. Check your source, broadway was on swass.
the external link to his official site doesn't work at the moment. (9-mar-06)
SWASS
[edit]Does anyone have anything citable for SWASS meaning "Some wild-ass silly shit"? I've heard Sir Mix say this, but that's not citable; the online references I can find seem to come from sites I would not generally consider reliable sources. - Jmabel | Talk 05:39, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Where did you hear this? Was this said in a song? I've heard it before but I never knew what it meant. Seems important to document if we can find a reference. I'm willing to do some research if you can give me a hint on where to start. 05:34, 21 January 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Johaw1 (talk • contribs)
- Even if true, I can't really see how it's notable enough to mention in an encyclopedia article. This isn't a trivia or rumor mill. Xihr (talk) 00:17, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
I heard him say this in an interview from the 80s that was posted on YouTube by Nasty Nes. The video is no longer available though.
Birth date
[edit]Birth date anonymously changed. Does someone have a citation? - Jmabel | Talk 04:27, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
And now it's changed again, still no citation. - Jmabel | Talk 00:37, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Military
[edit]This was placed in the article; seems more like talk page stuff to me; also, if it goes back in the article it should use normal internal links to other Wikipedia articles:
- Side Notes
- Sir Mix-a-Lot was often heard on the American Forces Network(AFN). It is not clear whether he served or not, although one of his songs "My Hooptie" refers to "brothers in Goretex" and "little club called the N-C-O" which is also known as the NCO club. Need a citation for Sir Mix-a-Lot's military service to be included, if he served.
"Need a citation... if he served" means this is not ready for the article itself. I'd be surprised if he served; if he did so, it would have been very young, because he was around the Seattle scene circa 1982, when he would only have been around 20 years old. And, without citation "often heard" on a particular radio network doesn't really mean much. (I would imagine that as a rapper whose stuff is pretty clean, AFN would like him; bet they didn't play "One-Time's Got No Case", though.
As for "brothers in Goretex", hey, he's from Seattle. Goretex (and flannel) come with the territory. - Jmabel | Talk 00:37, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Mix-a-lot has an entire song devoted to Goretex, which was his preferred brand of boot at the time. The rhyme certainly was a call-out to everyone who wore the shoe, much like Run DMC did with "My Adidas" and The Fresh Prince did with Fila in his lyrics. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.47.87.25 (talk) 02:07, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
—Hi, I grew up with this, and can answer the question. No, he was probably never enlisted. He and his posse would hang out in downtown Bremerton because of certain trades that happened down there. He talks about this in his songs. I can give specifics if you like. He wasn’t too thrilled with the quality of the “items” being offered in Bremerton, yet he still partook. He was there so much most people in Bremerton think he came from there. There are many stories about him. Not all of them are positive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:600:C580:31C0:B54A:FDC1:CA3A:66C8 (talk) 12:10, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
"Recently"
[edit]"Recently Sir Mix-A-Lot played a minor role": "Recently" isn't much use in an encyclopedia (this is not a magazine). Can anyone put a date on this? - Jmabel | Talk 20:55, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Mix-A-Lot and Kid Sensation = 2 different rappers.
[edit]In the opening sentence of this Wiki, it states that Mix-A-Lot called himself "Kid Sensation" on some tracks. Kid Sensation was a member of the Posse. http://www.myspace.com/xolamusic
In the opening of "Posse on Broadway" Mix-A-Lot raps: "Me and Kid Sensation..." obviously speaking of his band-mate. And later in the song refers to him again... "My homeboy Kid Sensation is the teenage lady killer"
- You are correct, and whoever wrote that was grossly misinformed. We need to work together to find good sources for this article, there really aren't any right now which I find surprising. Coccyx Bloccyx (talk) 18:22, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Not only has Kid Sensation released an album under that name, but also under Xola. Here is a music video he did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NZffrYL1XM —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.45.17.251 (talk) 17:25, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
Posse On Broadway contains a sample from David Bowie's 1975 hit "Fame".
[edit]I believe only the remix contains samples from Fame. I only have the instrumental remix which is called Posse On Broadway (Godzilla Posse Beats) and the sampling is verious obvious. The weird sound you hear before "My Posses On Broadway" in the original is, form what I've gathered, a slowed down sample of a Godzilla scream from one of the old Godzilla movies, thus the motivation to do the Godzilla themed remix which contains lots of Godzilla samples. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.45.17.251 (talk) 17:31, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
Middle Name is Lot (Anthony Lot Ray)
[edit]I remember hearing that his middle name is actually lot. An Intelius search for an Anthony Ray who is 44 and in Washington gives a result of Anthony Lot Ray. Looking for a more solid source on this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.45.7.167 (talk) 16:05, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Debut
[edit]I'm a bit surprized at the year of Sir Mix-a-lot's debut in this article. Perhaps someone could tell me whether this Sir Mix-a-lot is the same guy in 1986 performing Square Dance Rap? Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 17:54, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
Yes this is the same Sir Mix-A-Lot. He even released a few singles before Square Dance Rap such as I Just Love My Beat and Im A Trip.
Was he Knighted?
[edit]I have heard by some that he is knighted. I can't imaging how talking about big booties is worthy of such an honor. Can anyone confirm?
- He was certainly not, and here it is shot down straight from the mixhorse's mouth from his Reddit AMA. I'll fix the article.
Radio Enthusiast
[edit]Sir Mix-A-Lot is a big radio enthusiast, has a ham radio license, and has a big presence on the CB radio frequencies in the Northwest. On CB radio he goes by the handle Prime Minister and has even done a song related to it. The song is called No Excuses On Da Bowl. [1] Bowl is a reference to CB Channel 6 which is called The Superbowl Channel sometimes. There is an Entertainment Weekly article that mentions Sir Mix-A-Lot owns a Seattle area ham-radio-parts manufacturing company named RC Electronics [2] 72.74.148.76 (talk) 14:17, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

six or seven dollars an hour
[edit]not sure why his mom's wage is in the article without context, but when he was a child, six or seven dollars an hour was just about 3 times the minimum wage, so that would be a decent job. if it was a little later, perhaps 2x 98.7.201.234 (talk) 16:15, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
