Mikkalai, your recent edit referencing the Boogaloo style of music is highly inaccurate. I don't think you've ever seen it. As a childhood fan of the show, I can vouch that the show's musical styling was nothing remotely similar to Latin dance music. Please revert your contribution.

No problem, but I don't think many will confuse "boogaloo" with "Bugaboo", they really aren't that similar sounding. I don't think the Boogaloo reference should be included. ---Jackel 18:10, 31 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Boogaloo / Bugaloo etymology

While the style of music had no latin influence, it is possible that the producers were going for a play on words with "bug" and "boogaloo" in it's generic, layman's sense of meaning. Actually I had never thought of boogaloo as Latin. I had thought that it was the term from which boogie-woogie and boogie had been derived from. A dance party where people would dance to boogie.

I could be wrong.

Also, am I the only one who understood (as a kid) that the Bugaloos were fairies in Tranquility Forest? That is why they had the wings, were the same size as fireflies, why they could walk around inside an old jukebox, and why the forest was much larger in proportion. They were a fairy rock band!

Of course the thing I couldn’t understand is what Benita was. But then, not all fairies have wings.

Don't over analyze it.  :) The "Bug-a-loos" were bugs. They were supposed to be insects, not fairies, as were Sparky the Firefly and Gina Lolowattaga (with that Mae West accent). It was all part of that 70's pop/British invasion hip sort of feel. We've been watching some of the DVDs and I remember the show from when I was pre-teen. Of course Peter Platter was a DJ and not a bug at all with a sort of Motown voice, the 2D cutout sort-of-human "Yellow Subnmarine-esque" crowd were in no way meant to be insects. Add to that a large rat with a German accent in a WWII "NAZI" looking uniform (note the "BB" emblem on the hat rather than a double-eagle), his sister Brunhilde with blonde braids and a Viking helmet but with a German accent, Woofer and Tweeter Benita Bizarre's "electronic" henchmen, a peacock door for the juke box, an electronic paging system with a voice like Edward G. Robinson, and a few oddball costumes from H.R. Pufnstuf (Magico was a frog costume and I think it was the same as the dancing frog in Pufnstuf) with some modification and you really have an odd mix. So it doesn't make sense at all. I do remember I had a little-boy crush on Caroline "Joy" Ellis that lingers to this day. <sigh> Greenbomb101 (talk) 18:12, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Benita Bizarre = Boss Witch from "Pufnstuf" Movie?

Would it be worth pointing out the similarities between the characters of Benita Bizarre and the Boss Witch character from the 1970 "Punfstuf" movie? Though their costumes were different, both characters' personalities and physical makeup (e.g. those glittery eyelids and that long, needle nose) were very similar. Both were portrayed by Martha Raye. Most significant of all, both of them had a Nazi rat for a flunky (the Boss Witch's rat was referred to as "Heinrich," and had a skull & crossbones on his hat instead of the BB, but otherwise was the same character). Benita Bizarre, what she is; I remember [the novels] said Benita Bizarre was a rock witch who presumably was once a famous singer. Peter Platter drops a hint in the first episode by asking hows the golden throat. I always thought she was part bird because of her obsession of feathers and the fact that she couldn't fly nor sing. But a rock witch was what the Kroffts intended

Bugaloos Remake coming soon

Just thought of letting everyone know Sid and Marty Krofft have confirmed at the 2016 comic con of a Bugaloos reboot, they still aren't releasing a whole lot of details but from what I read they are talking to a cable network. Just listened to a radio interview with Marty Krofft today and it doesn't sound like The Bugaloos pilot got picked up at all, According to Marty; they are going to reshoot the pilot although it is unknown if it will still be live action or not. He also said Randy Jackson will be involved with the music. Ok, On Saturday at Comic Con Marty Krofft said that they are definitely reshooting The Bugaloos pilot. According to Marty it won't be for preschoolers anymore so I dunno if the new Bugaloos will be geared toward older kids or teenagers.
